New Decade & Old Roots

Do you remember where you were when the new Millenium began ? The first decade of the 21st century is already over (depending on when you believe it started) and we stride on into 2010 with so many events to look forward to. This year the Soccer World Cup in SA takes centre stage, with thousands of hopeful fans making the journey – to be shocked or pleasantly surprised, only time will tell.

For those of us who are not braving the masses, do we have another good summer to look forward to at the end of all this unusually snowy weather ? If you live in the south of England you have a fairly good chance of getting a few braais under your belt – up ‘north’ hopefully a few good days here and there.

Biltong Direct is also making strides into 2010 after weathering the storm of recession during 2009. We are on a mission !!!   We hear of many Saffers who are returning to the good old land and many others who are moving on to Oz and New Zealand but what about those who stay – as we become more and more integrated into the British way of life will we ever lose our old roots ?

I don’t think so …. Just this last week new customers in our shop were thrilled to discover brands and products remembered from their childhood spent in SA – after 30 years back here !
Our mission is to foster the maintenance of our roots, to sustain old values. We continue to make great traditional Biltong, Droewors, Snap Sticks and Boerewors using spices from SA and the best quality meats available, as well as stocking those favourite foods you crave from time to time. This is the soil for our roots - foods for the soul.

Changes in the Pipeline

Some things must change though, because we are always looking for ways of improving our service to our customers.
To make it easier to nurture your 'old roots' we are making a .....

Change in price
Prices always rise – that is an unfortunate fact of life – but we are going to challenge this statement by offering our customers some great discounts. Starting this month,  we will print a code in every monthly Newsletter. Enter this Voucher Code at the checkout when placing your next order online - or give it to us when calling at the shop and you will be surprised with a super discount (the % and the code will change every month – so don’t miss out).  (Step by Step instructions on our website)

Change in packing
Regular internet customers will have noticed that the way we pack their orders has changed slightly. Still done with meticulous care, we are now using brown paper packets to send out some of our products as we feel they will arrive fresher and tasting more natural than vacuum packed products do. If you are buying our products from a butchery or deli, you will still find the gold packets just as before.

Change in postage
We are constantly trying to find cheaper ways of getting internet orders to you. Part of our mission this year is to reduce postage wherever possible, so we have already changed our preferred courier and hope to pass on savings to you through the year.

Change in presentation
Internet facilities improve all the time and another part of our mission for 2010 is to streamline our website and provide some new services for our customers. We have already made a start….
New to our Website this month:  Customers' Comments  (Home Page - left hand column).  So many folk email us with their congratulations – and sometimes the odd constructive criticism  - which we always deal with to the best of our ability. We think it would be good for these comments to be available for new, and regular customers, to read. If you would like to comment on our products or service, your comments will be printed on the website too.  This is the forerunner to our planned forum, so keep watching this space …..

Boereworsklub

Hoe het die nuwe dekade jou ontvang? Ek vertrou dat vreugde, seën en geluk heelpad met jou sal saamdraf deur 2010, jou rooster heeljaar sal drup van gemarineerde heerlikhede en jou (s)pens vol biltong sal bly.

Voorspoedige nuwe dekade vir jou en jou en natuurlik ook vir jou!

Ek het net een, nee eintlik twee nuwejaarsvoornemens en dit is om nie weer nuwejaarsvoornemens te maak nie. En ook om hierdie jaar nie sulke hoë verwagtinge van my sportspanne te hê nie. Die seer van teleurstelling is te ondraagbaar. My verwagtinge sal ek bêre vir die volgende rugby-wêreldbeker. Hierdie jaar, egter, gaan ek rugby, krieket en selfs sokker kyk met ‘n koue skuimkoppie in die hand en ‘n saligheid in die hart. Ek gaan dit bloot net geniet. Wen of verloor. Soos ‘n fliek. Geniet dit terwyl dit aan die gang is, bespreek dit ná die tyd, lig die hoogte- en laagtepunte uit en sien dan uit na die volgende een.

Maar nou weet ons mos hoe maklik vou so ‘n ou voornementjie.

Waar ek hier skryf wonner ek al klaar of Corrie van Zyl die manne bymekaar kan hou met die Proteas se toer daar deur Indië (kyk, mens het hoë verwagtinge van ‘n Vrystater!). En of Pieter Snorman sy trop Bokke weer op die regte spoor kan plaas.

En of die Cheetahs weer die Koppie gaan terugbring huis toe.

En of Bafana dalk, net dalkies…

Nee hokaai nou eers, terug aarde toe. Hou hierdie spasie dop vir ‘n paar lekker toevoegings by Biltong Direct. Hoe’s daai vir iets om na uit te sien?
